Your response got me to thinking. The last time I copied off the
contents of the tape it was directly to VHS and was probably at the end
rather then at the beginning. Upon checking I found it had to be
rewound. Duh....

For some reason I thought the connection to the iMac/iMovie would allow
me to manipulate the controls right away. After rewinding I fired up
iMovie and found that didn't work right off. I connected the camera to
a VCR, Line 1, which is connected to 42" Plasma monitor. I played the
movie and it appeared on the Plasma and the iMovie window connected and
displayed the same. I hit "import" and the movie began to record.

So "nobody special" you're pretty special to have figured that out.
I've been all over the Mac Newsgroups with no suggestions. I thank you
again for taking the time to respond.

I was willing to try all or most of those (it is already connected to
AC power) and I spent time perusing the 'Net for a new firewire cable
in case that was the culprit. I had tried using both firewire ports on
the iMac and know now they both work.

Now to figure out how iMovie works. The video looks great!
