Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of ART OF THE DEVIL, BODY COUNT: LIVE
IN L.A., BROTHER MINISTER: THE ASSASSINATION OF MALCOLM X, DEMON HUNTER,
DISNEY SING ALONG SONGS: DISNEYLAND FUN AND BEACH PARTY AT WALT DISNEY
WORLD, KISS OF DEATH (1947), RAMBO: SNOW RAID (VOLUME 5), RESIDENT
ALIEN, SECOND BEST, SHORT CUT TO NIRVANA, STEAM DETECTIVES: THE COMPLETE
SERIES, and VELVET REDUX: LIVE MCMXCIII:
ART OF THE DEVIL (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 85/100):
"One guy vomits up razor blades. Another upchucks carpentry nails. And,
my personal favorite, some poor guy disgorges a pile of eels, which
later erupt from his body, leading to a great scene where his sister
finds him lying in the hospital bed, gutted and bloody, with hundreds of
eels writhing on the floor. It's pretty sweet."

BODY COUNT: LIVE IN L.A. (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score
80/100):
"Body Count may have lost several of its members, and its controversial
luster, on the way to this commemorative show, but there is still some
moxie in this metal musical force. What once was inflammatory is now
borderline laughable and the horror references outnumber the nods to the
'hood by a significant margin."

BROTHER MINISTER: THE ASSASSINATION OF MALCOLM X (reviewed by Bill
Gibron, overall score 81/100):
"Instead of telling us who Malcolm X was from a purely political and
cultural impact position, Baxter and collaborator Jefri Aalmuhammed are
too busy drawing lines through and to the notable names involved. They
fail to reconfigure X for a post-modern audience."

DEMON HUNTER (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 73/100):
"Finally, the naughty bits -- we're talking brief shots of pointless and
surprisingly graphic sex, which all pretty much happen during one
hallway sequence when Jake and Sarah are checking out demon HQ. It's
less erotic and more 'Hey were those two girls making out with each
other? Rewind it dude!'"

DISNEY SING ALONG SONGS: DISNEYLAND FUN AND BEACH PARTY AT WALT DISNEY
WORLD (reviewed by Michael Stailey, overall score 75/100):
"The Sing Along Songs series is legalized heroin for children ages 1-8.
Once they've tasted it, there's no going back. They crave the fix, savor
the buzz, and mourn the withdrawal. I've seen it happen firsthand. It's
truly frightening to behold."

KISS OF DEATH (1947) (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 77/100):
"Kiss of Death is almost romantic-comedy-like in its execution: Man
meets crime, man leaves crime, man hooks up with crime again."
FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/kissdeath1947.php
RAMBO: SNOW RAID (VOLUME 5) (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall
score 71/100):
"Although First Blood was probably not a prime candidate for the toy
aisles, the animated Rambo sure was, making this series little more than
a 22-minute animated toy commercial for miniature plastic warfare."

RESIDENT ALIEN (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 82/100):
"As throughout his entire career, Crisp is not really a personality so
much as a mirror. He absorbs the essence of the area around him,
drinking in its spirit and specialness, topping it off with a well-
rehearsed bon mot or two. Only he could make this otherwise whiny
wisenheimer of a movie work."

SECOND BEST (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 73/100):
"I had no clear idea where the movie was trying to take me, what these
'small' scenes were trying to depict. As a result, it felt like a
handful of poignant quips buried among a drawn-out marathon of
drudgery. Subtlety is good when your underlying theme is discernable,
but only then."

SHORT CUT TO NIRVANA (reviewed by Russell Engebretson, overall
score 80/100):
"However, I'd wager that not many have seen a sadhu wrap his penis
around the middle of a five-foot stick and then invite a spectator to
climb onto his back and stand on the stick."

STEAM DETECTIVES: THE COMPLETE SERIES (reviewed by James A. Stewart,
overall score 90/100):
"I noticed the episodes getting better as Steam Detectives goes along.
Part of that could have been my initial unfamiliarity with the series,
but it seemed like the series took a few more chances with its storyline
once it introduced the major players, good and bad."

VELVET REDUX: LIVE MCMXCIII (reviewed by Steve Evans, overall
score 70/100):
"On this disc, at least, the Velvets often come off like journeymen --
competent musicians who get the job done without evidencing a lot of
excitement for the work."
