No, actually, it won't, if that article isn't still on the server.

But, sure, my newsreader threads just fine, and knows what article was
supposedly being replied to. But, without any quoting there's no way
of knowing whether the user just hit "reply" on some random article in
the thread and then started typing while looking at a different article.
