I have had the same experience with the ILO "dvdr05mu". It seems to be
recording just fine but when you press the "stop" button, the indicator
says "PROCESS" for a long time and finally stops and things look normal.
But when you go to play back the DVD, the drive does not even recognize
that there is even a DVD inserted. I try it in the ILO unit and also in
the computer's Pioneer R/W drive and in my computer's ASUS DVD player
drive and my Philips stand-alone DVD player. All of these units act as
though they don't even see the DVD. I wanted to re-format the DVD using
Nero but you cannot do that if the drive thinks it does not contain a
DVD. I even tried the "DVD X Rescue" utility but again you cannot use any
utility if the drive thinks that it does not contain a DVD.
My belief is that the recorder over-writes some important header
information that is present on the blank DVD. There must be some header
data such as:
CD or DVD ?
Write Speed
+R/W or -R/W ?
single or dual layer ?
and this data must be written on all new blank DVD's.
If this header data is over-written the DVD becomes a useless piece of
plastic. If there is a utility available to re-write this header data, I
have never heard of it.
One other thought: I have only tried using Memorex DVD's and that is not
on the list of known good brands in ILO's FAQ. Verbatim is a commonly
available brand that is on their list. I may try to shop for a couple of
Verbatim DVD+R/W's just to give them a try.
If you learn anything, please let us know. You are not alone with this
problem.
