You don't need to finalize RW discs, only Rs. My standalone DVD recorders
that I use to record TV programmes (a Philips DVDR725H/05 (160Gb hard drive)
and a Philips HDRW720 (80Gb HD) do not even give the option to finalize when
an RW disc is used, only when an R disc is used.
