MPEG-4 is the latest compression algorithm for video. An AVI is a
wrapper used for MPEG-4s and other compression schemes. Then there's
DivX and XviD codecs, XviD being more popular. Converters include
VirtualDubMod, Auto Gordian Knot, WinAVI, Total Video Converter and
others.
The beginner would be best served getting AGK since it uses VDM. It
also does subtitles. But there is a glitch - it won't work with the
latest DivX codec - you have to get the one that the author of AGK has
made to work.

In Hillary Clinton's new book "Living History," Hillary details what
it was like meeting Bill Clinton, falling in love with him, getting
married, and living a passionate, wonderful life as husband and wife.
Then on page two, the trouble starts.
