Hey everyone, Nugget Ned here. I just started collecting DVDs about a
year ago, but I already have a collection of about 400 titles. Today
I'm going to post the methods I use for getting DVD+R copies of as many
movies as possible. (I'm assuming anyone reading this has a DVD-Burner
on their computer)
First things first, before getting into any of these methods, everyone
has to have DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink, DVD43, and a knowledge of how
they work. DVD Decryptor (with DVD43 open in the background) will be
used to rip the movies onto your computer as the first step. Secondly,
DVD Shrink will be used, if need be, to "shrink" the dvd size down to
your standard 4.7 GB DVD disc. The third and final step is just burning
the DVD, again utilizing DVD Decryptor, or NERO if you have it. *Note
that if you do wish to burn with NERO, then the DVD Shrink files must
be backed up as Hard Disc Folder, not your usual ISO file... now onto
the movie obtaining methods.
1) All-You-Can-Rent Pass at Blockbuster.
I'm just guessing that everyone here lives somewhere near a
Blockbuster. If you do, then you have everything needed to get a huge
collection of movies really quick. Go to Blockbuster and sign up for
the monthly all you can rent pass. With this pass, you can have 2
movies rented out to you at any time. This means you can rent twice as
many movies in one day as the number of trips you feel like making to
blockbuster. Last summer, I got the all you can rent pass, and so did a
good friend of mine. We went to Blockbuster all the time, rented 4
movies, and went back about 2 hours later to rent 4 more. Both of us
would make 2 copies of each disc we got, one for each of us. This
really gets the collection big in no time.... and don't worry about the
people at Blockbuster, even if they know you're burning movies, they
won't mind. You'll probably be their favorite customer anyways just
because of how often you're in the store.
2) Borrow All of All of Your Friends' Movies
This one is simple enough. Any good movies your friends have,
just ask them to borrow them. Make them a deal like "every 3 you let me
borrow I'll burn you a movie". They simply can't say no to that deal,
so for the cost of 5 blank DVDs, you can have 15 new movies to copy.
The more friends you have, the more movies you can get with this
so-simple-its-brilliant method.
3) Start Downloading DVDR Files
That's right, it is possible to download whole movies right off of
the internet. Search bit torrent engines for "DVDR" or "ISO" and you're
sure to find some DVDs to download (do a google search if you don't
know what bit torrent is). They're really large files, but just leave
them downloading whenever you aren't using your comptuer, including
while you're sleeping. Pretty soon you will have movies finishing every
day, and all you have to do is wait for them.
4) Trade DVDrs with People
There are forums just like this one with people who are looking
for DVDr trades by mail. This is a really good way to get those
hard-to-find movies that blockbuster simply does not have. Many times
people will have accounts on sites like www.dvdaficionado.com
showcasing their entire DVD collections. Make one of these databases
yourself, then just pick movies from other peoples' and send them a
link to yours, telling them to pick the same number. After that all you
have to do is exchange addresses, mail the movies, and then wait for
them to arrive. Nothing feels better than just getting 10s of movies in
the mail just out of nowhere too. It really brightens up your day when
it happens.
If you follow these 4 easy methods for acquiring movies, you will have
way more than anyone you know in about a year. Just think about
whoever you know with the most DVDs's collection, then think in one
year you will have a way better one (unless of course its someone like
me, Nugget Ned).
