My DVDR05MU1 Will record on (-) format discs. It fully recognizes the
disc, allows recording, finalization AND UNfinalize (if usinf a
DVD-RW).

A word of caution.... I used a -RW, edited titles and also cut out an
unneeded section of a recording. All this editing and such made the
disc rather unstable in other players.

I suppose each person can test out their machine and see how it works.
I figure if you don't mess with the recordning much, it may far well
for you.
