Well, unlike Tarantino, I wasn't "into" Asian cinema, so all the cultural
& iconic references left me cold first time around.

As a result, KB felt like his most geeky, self indulgent work. Little
more than a pastiche of the movies he was stealing from.

The geeky part of the remark still holds true, but, prompted by
KB, I've started catching up on all the stuff it references - Lady
Snowblood etc. I suppose it's my own frame of reference
which changed.

Yes - I got geeky too.
