I finally figured out where the surveilance cameras are located on a
commercial DVD. They are in the hinge of the plastic case and are
powered by a very tiny solar cell.

When you see the FBI warning at the start of a movie, those cameras
are recording you, and have your photo sent directly to the FBI.
However, it's been determined that you can "fool" them. Just cover
the plastic case with a towel or blanket as soon as you open the case
and BEFORE you insert the DVD into your player.
This way, the FBI will only see the blanket or whatever is covering
the case.
