I recently realised that I hadn't seen any films by Michael Winterbottom. I
heard of him, but never saw any of em.
So I ordered Code 46, The Claim and In This World.
I didn't know much about any of them.

I watched Code 46 the other night. It's a low(ish)-budget sci-fi that
doesn't rely on techy gadgets to tell its tale. In fact it doesn't need
those techy gadgets.
Instead it uses mostly exotic city locations to hint at
otherworldliness -even though the movie _is_ actually set in those cities
(ie. it doesn't try to pretend they are Mars or someplace).

The closest comparison I can think of would be Gattaca, but it's all less
cold and and less futuristic than that. This is a better movie too in my
opinion.

Anyway, I'm a bit bored of clone-type stories by now. Thankfully Code46 is
nothing to do with that. Instead it's a kind of forbidden love tale with a
sci-fi twist. Nice stuff. Plenty to think about -and no glaringly-obvious
plothole silliness that is the norm for movies like this (although I do have
one question on a major point that I'm not sure about).
It also doesn't over-explain any day-to-day unfamiliar/strange events &
actions, but leaves us to piece it together for ourselves (if we feel like
it).

Overall -highly recommended and well worth the fiver or so that I paid for
it on dvdpacific.
Looking forward to the rest of those dvds.

I think I'll watch In This World next.

Who here has seen Code 46? I have a question...

<mid-plot 'spoiler'>

....After there are 3 deaths he is sent back to clean up the mess he left
unfinished... why? Surely if the guy he had fingered was responsible, then
those deaths could still have occurred after he left Shanghai...?

-Kevin.
