they do... Smokers pay about �9 billion in tax a year in this country
purely from buying their tobacco. Treatment of smoking related illnesses
and theorised passive smoking illnesses costs slightly less than �1billion
per year.

It's been an issue here in Scotland that the smoking ban kicks in on Monday
and the expected revenue that will be lost by those people who quit has been
estimated to have the same cost to the NHS as running 40 large hospitals per
year.
