Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of THE APE, BABYLON 5: THE LEGEND OF
THE RANGERS, THE DICK CAVETT SHOW: RAY CHARLES COLLECTION, MADISON,
NEVADA, SPACE AMOEBA, STRONGHOLD, TEXAS LIGHTNING, WAGON WHEELS, WE WISH
YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS, and WHAT'S NEW SCOOBY-DOO?: GHOSTS ON THE GO
(VOLUME 7):

THE APE (reviewed by Brendan Babish, overall score 58/100):
"Spinal Tap's David St. Hubbins once famously said, 'It's such a fine
line between clever and stupid.' Well, as The Ape demonstrates,
sometimes that line is not so fine."

BABYLON 5: THE LEGEND OF THE RANGERS (reviewed by Mac McEntire, overall
score 66/100):
"There are times when JMS's script has the feel of going through the
motions. We've already seen captains Sinclair, Sheridan, and Gideon
outsmart an overwhelming enemy in an unconventional way. So, when Martel
does it here, it's less of a clever twist and more of a 'Yep, this is
another Babylon 5 script, all right' feeling."

THE DICK CAVETT SHOW: RAY CHARLES COLLECTION (reviewed by Ryan Keefer,
overall score 72/100):
"The charming, 'aw, shucks' self-deprecating nature of Charles really
does come through, and Cavett is quite the fan, apparently."

MADISON (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 74/100):
"There are elements in Madison that have been used and reused in many
a sports movie before it. I guess that's not necessarily a deal-
breaker for those of you looking for harmless, syrupy theatrics. But
for anyone anticipating a sports film with something new, you'll find
more originality in that wheelchair basketball episode from Saved by
the Bell."

NEVADA (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 73/100):
"Here's yet another volume in Lionsgate's middling 'Zane Grey Western
Classics' series, but it's easily one of the more notable entries. The
pulpy action is as quick as it is thick, with rootin' tootin' gunfights,
classic villainous scheming, and a tough but upstanding hero."

SPACE AMOEBA (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 67/100):
"Nothing differentiates these folks from the acting fodder in other Toho
productions, and the actors here have even appeared in multiple Godzilla
films prior to this. Basically, they're old pros and they know what
their roles are: to limp through the boring preambles then scream their
larynxes out when the monster-of-the-afternoon starts stepping on
cardboard skyscrapers."

STRONGHOLD (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 65/100):
"Besides the parade of badly dubbed, outrageous South American accents,
Stronghold crumbles under the sheer weight of poor editing."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/stronghold.php

TEXAS LIGHTNING (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 45/100):
"Texas Lightning is miserable crap, a batch of festering nonsense that
holds value only for those desperate to see Maureen McCormick in an
awkward love scene (no, there is no explicit Brady nudity, you
pervert)."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/texaslightning.php

WAGON WHEELS (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 68/100):
"Like many films from the 1930s, Wagon Wheels tries to be all things for
all audiences, interspersing the western action with corny comedy relief
and several Broadway-style songs that are a poor match for the
historical era."

WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall
score 63/100):
"We Wish You a Merry Christmas casts its clumsy holiday spell with bad
storytelling and unimpressive, limited animation. Featuring simplistically-
drawn characters in both senses of the term, the show follows in the
footsteps of every other Christmas special preoccupied with the 'true'
essence of the season, but rarely have I seen it done so poorly."

WHAT'S NEW SCOOBY-DOO?: GHOSTS ON THE GO (VOLUME 7) (reviewed by Steve
Evans, overall score 60/100):
"Since kids cannot live by public television alone, in case of
emergency, break glass and pull out this Scooby-Doo DVD. Let your kids
indulge in the innocuous antics of brain-dead characters and buy
yourself a few precious minutes of sanity before your own cerebellum
presents as a flat line."
