That's how I like to work too. I quote full rate less whatever discount
I feel inclined to apply. That increases my perceived value (I'm no
longer a $25/hr. engineer, I'm a $50/hr. engineer that they're getting
for half price), reduces haggling (if the quote is already discounted,
the client is less likely to ask for a lower rate) and makes it easier
to charge full rate for other work ("I give the amateur baseball club a
discount, but that wouldn't apply to the work you're asking me to do for
ESPN.").
