If it's any help, I don't have an Archos, but a Mustek; does the same.
I scrambled it's OS and had to re-load it once. Went to they're web
site where the FAQs led my to download it restore sw and re-loaded it
via USB. Also froze it a few times and had to hit the secret reset
button.
