might be a CCD issue. we had similiar issues (a red line appeared
occassionally) with a different sony camera and a second that was acting up
to like it was going to do the same thing and we just got rid of all the
sony cameras and got panasonic's and the problem was eliminated.

in another post here, someone said there are a slew of bad CCD's. maybe
urs?
