I'm very much a newby to all of this DVD stuff.

We have a bunch of VHS tapes that my wife made of the kids over the
years. None of them have much on them. I'd like to archive them to my PC
and edit them into one file.

I bought a CyberHome DVD Recorder which seems to do a pretty good job
saving the VHS video onto DVD+R discs.

I have a DVD reader, and I can view the recorded discs on my PC.

What do I need to get the data off of the DVD's?

What format should I save to? What are the pluses/minuses?

What SW should I use to put them together?

Freeware/Shareware is preferred, but reasonably priced Buyware is fine, too.
