Thanks for that, I'm always pleased to hear 'much simpler'.
But what is it 'always recording' ?

I'm thinking of a recorder with a built in digital tuner (Sony
RDR-HXD710) which is said to have the TV-Pause function, connected to an
existing integrated digital TV (Sony KD-28DL11U). In this case there
will be no common input to TV and recorder so how does the recorder keep
track of the channel being viewed on the TV in order to start recording
it ?
