It's not. Like many US companies it has outsourced manufacturing to
inexpensive alternatives.

Sony is pulling in hell more profits than Toshiba.

NOW, keep in mind that it's not just sony here...you've got Samsung,
Panasonic and other big players in the Blu-ray camp.
