Thanks a lot for taking time to post this information. As I was
reading your reply I experienced a homeresque "D'oh!" moment as I
realized that I had received an e-mail about this very situation not
too long ago and had barely glanced at it because at the time my camera
was working great. By the time it flaked out on me the e-mail had sank
out of sight in my inbox and "out of mind" mode kicked in.
I checked out the Sony site and it does seem like they're describing my
problem exactly. The audio works fine and playback of previously
recorded tapes is okay. It's just the image captured through the lens
while recording (and the view of it in the LCD and viewfinder) that is
distorted.
So I'm going to finish up a few quick things and then I'll be shipping
mine off to get repaired. It is good to hear that it only took you
about two weeks - that does seem like a reasonable time - again thanks
for the info.
This incident has finally convinced me though that it's time to step up
to something a little better and so I've decided to spring for a Canon
GL2 with which to continue the pursuit of my video recording endeavors.
