If the DVD recorder has an IR blaster, it can control the cable box.
If not, it will need to be configured to always use channel 4 (or
better, an A/V input) and you have to set up the box beforehand.
If you are only going to record analog channels (typically below 100),
you may be better of with a splitter before the cable box. One output
goes to the cable box, the other to the recorder. That way, the recorder
can directly tune unscrambled analog channels.
