I have quite a large collection of vinyl LPs which I would like to
record onto MP3 or OGG. Can anyone recommend a portable recorder/player.

I beleive the Cowon IAudio M3 or M5 or X5 will do this or the VuSys
I-DJ670. Are there any other alternatives.

Machines that can be used with Linux would be an advantage
