See what I wrote above - use Virtualdub to extract the sound and save
as a wav file - then use that as the source for your sound when
converting the file to mpeg.

which is why I prefer to make VCDs when burning files of less than 90
minutes.

I don't think you need all that hard-drive space when burning a DVD -
maybe when editing or when converting from analog using a capture card.
