I have some VCD files (.mpg, .avi, ...) larger than 700 MB. My Nero burning
software only allows such files to be burned to a CD, and my CDs have a 700
MB capacity. Therefore I'm stuck. First I put in a CDR and Nero says there
is not enough room. Then I put in a DVDR and Nero says invalid disc type.

Any advice on how I can burn these to a DVDR or do some sort of file
conversion/compression?
