The amazon.com description of the Philips DVP642 says:

converts Region 1/All Region PAL-formatted discs (the video standard in
Europe) for viewing on standard NTSC televisions

That seems to imply it might not play Region 2 discs. From what you
say, I gather it will - though I wonder how one discovers the necessary
keypresses.

Too bad amazon currently lists it as "ships in 1-2 months".
