Depending on the *intended use*, yes it can be. It you want to operate
it by feel while doing something else, a screen is a distraction. If
you want to constantly change tracks and albums, get an *iPod* Nano.

I've had the same kind of battery (Lithium-Ion) in my PDA for 2 years
now with no appreciable indication of deterioration. If you do have to
replace the battery in 2-3 years, the savings from not buying AAA
batteries will more than offset the cost of a battery kit or even a new
Shuffle. In 2-3 years you'll want a newer model anyway.
