I have seen many examples of the first one. It seems one side of the tape
is loger than the other side, resulting in nasty high frequency effects.

7 and 8 are typical for analog tape. With digital media you can easely
implement redundancy (several copies on different places) and use networks
for transport of the data and so avoid the problems.
