I hesitate to add this because this is only second hand info but I
have two sources.

1. My dentist was from J'burg. Described it as lawless. Was glad to
get out.

2. A friend who is an extremely seasoned "world traveler" and used to
countries which sound horrifying to me; nontheless described J'burg as
a place he never wants to see again.

We read about Mandela and the wonderful reconciliation after the fall
of the apartheid regimes. Seems that reality is is sobering.

Not all of South Africa is as bad as this city.
