I am using DSI now, a private shipping insurance company, at a flat monthly
rate. I just include the little it works out to cost me per package in the
Shipping & Handling fee. On the packing slip, I give the insurance company
name, etc., and my policy number in the remarks section, and I highlight
that line in yellow. I also briefly state my arrangement in my listings and
name the company and explain that it is included in shipping & handling.

I got really tired of leaving insurance up to the buyer on some listings.
When the listing said "Insurance Required," I had a couple recently who
didn't pay the insurance, and I had to dun them for it before I would mail.

The company does request that we not put "Insured by DSI" labels on the
outside. By the way, the newest Priority Mail boxes I ordered also have
eBay on the outside. That translates to "Steal Me" as far as I'm concerned.

Right the private insurance is working out to about 50 cents per package for
value up to $100 and initial shipping and handling fees are included in the
claim. I can ship as many packages as I want for the flat fee they quoted
me. Of course, if I became a higher volume shipper, the monthly rate would
most likely go up. I'm a pretty safe bet, since 1999 I have only lost one
small package to the maze of USPS.

Now I insure every package and never leave the buyer with an option. No one
seems to mind the 50 cents.

Unless the package goes Priority Mail, I also include Delivery Confirmation,
which is only 14 cents if you print your label with PayPal.

I really appreciate a tracking number. Yet again I have some junior higher
who is doing "Are we there yet?.....Are we there yet?.....I wish I could
get it sooner" routine. Oh Lord.
