My rule of thumb has always been that the shorter an Irwin Allen show
ran, the better it was. THE TIME TUNNEL (one season) was the best of
them, followed by LAND OF THE GIANTS (two seasons), then by LOST IN
SPACE (three seasons), with VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA (four
seasons) dead last.

The explanation given by Fox is that the $80 MSRP on the full season
set of LIS:S1 was bought by the hard-core fans, but not by the impulse
buyers, who might've remembered liking the show as kids, but didn't
want to waste $80 and find out it wasn't as good as their memories
of it were.

Risking $40 for a half season was more palatable. It's also easier on
people's budgets to spend $40 now and $40 later than $80 now.

One interesting extra that's supposed to be on the TIME TUNNRL Vol 2
set is the made-in-2002 unsold revival pilot. It's actually quite
good. It'll be nice to have a good, clean, not-overly-compressed copy
of it.
