First of all, both are good programs which will do the job for you.

A Final Cut Studio package is likely going to give you more bang for
the buck. However, to get a really good feel for the differences in
functionality I'd suggest you pose the same question to the Final Cut
Advanced Discussion group. You can also look at the archives of
earlier comparisons.

Most of the editors who subscribe use or have used Avid as well and
they will give you a very wide and thorough rundown on what each does
and doesn't do. Much of the preferences are subjective of course and
ultimately, so will be your decision.

The list is a Yahoo Group found at "FinalCutPro-L@yahoogroups.com".

One CURRENT article (there are lots available on older versions which
no longer apply) would be at

http://www.geniusdv.com/tutorials/avid-vs-finalcutpro.php .

Another great article is from FCP lister Patrick Inhofer who wrote a
comparative article about 4 years ago and updated it in February to
cover more recent versions. You'll find that at

http://www.fini.tv/articles/avidfcp2006.html

Those should get you started. Let me know if you have any further
questions.
