Be aware that some manufacturers have abandoned development on the
slower speeds because no one uses them anymore. Therefore you do run
the risk of burning a disc with a defective procedure or one that is
obsolete.

The consensus among self-proclaimed experts (eg. CDFreaks) is that 8s
is the speed to burn 8x and 16x discs.
