Just so I've got this straight in my head, you bought the upscaling DVD
player and have it set so it

takes the SD DVD footage,
1) upscales to 1080 and
2) interlaces
which it then sends to the projector that
3) de-interlaces and
4) downscales to 720p
before it displays it

as opposed to having it
1) upscale to 720p
which it then sends to the projector that displays it.

Is there little wonder that, with four conversion processes to the 720p
options 1, it looks a 'little soft'?
