Actually, in HD, the old NTSC and PAL frame rates are maintained,
although the frame sizes (pixel dimensions) are identical.

The powers that be, when setting HD standards, had the opportunity to
discard these legacy operating characteristics, along with
interlacing, but old habits die hard, hence we have 720p25 and 720p30
along with 1080i50 and 1080i60.
