In addition to all that, Sony and Panasonic like to keep the
professionals and amateurs apart as much as possible, so that they can
charge the pros lots of money. MiniDV rather ruined that, as people
like me went out with our VX1000s in the late '90s.
If you want a camera with interchangable lenses, decent audio
facilities, selectable white balance and more, you generally won't
find a miniDV camera, but one of the "pro" format versions. Even though
the digital quality is the same on the tape no matter which of the
formats you use, the size of the chips and lens can make a very big
difference to the results, so it depends on the market you're working
in to.
