God, is this still going around and around?
We have one linear system, one PC based NLE (not AVID) and TWO FCP-HD
workstations. They all play quite well together, and we jump from one
to the other depending on many reasons. I will say I have to constantly
fight the other editors in the shop for FCP access, because once they
got onthis, they never wanted to go back to anything else.

They are just tools, guys. The artist is NOT his tool. Define your
job, pick the appropriate tool, and go do some work.
