So, *if* you decide to buy music online then you have to make a choice
to go with either the iTMS/iPod combo, or another player and the
WMA-based stores.

Why is this a problem? I can't see what you're getting so heated about.

The key thing with the iPod/iTMS combo is the seemless integration between
the two. When other companies keep producing 'iPod killers' their mistake
is that they only target *one* aspect - either the hardware or software but
not both. There isn't a single non-Apple player that can match the ease of
use of the iPod/iTMS combination. Not one.

The other stores rely on web browsers to access them (correct me if I'm
wrong on that) so they can't integrate seamlessly with $PLAYER, instead
relying on another bit of software to manage the songs (either another
app or the native file handling of the OS)
