I solved my problem, after much trial and error.

The cause of my problem was the "Asus Splendid Video Techonology" that
was installed with my A8N-SLI motherboard drivers. It is supposed to
improve video quality on movie clips and stuff like that. After
disabling it (right click desktop, properties, settings, advanced, asus
tab) all my problems viewing DVDs are gone.

Asus should be SHOT for the moronic drivers and software they released
with this motherboard. The firewall they included was FULL of bugs and
apparently so is this "Splendid Video" technology.
