Reality is that Apple dominates the market and their grip shows no signs
of slipping.

Given this, why should Apple deliberately help Microsoft, of all
companies, get a foothold? Microsoft had repeatedly demonstrated a
tendency to use its control of 'standards' to manipulate the market to
the detriment of other players.
