HD on 24" TV at 20' would likely be indistinguishable from SD
on that same 24" TV.

However if the 24" TV were sitting on your desk next your
computer display, then being HD would make a difference
even if the 24" TV wasn't the full 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Some of the HD displays are bigger than the old tube sets.
My TV has a 42" tube and we like it even though it just SD.
I'd gladly upgrade to HD except for 2 things; I would have to
go to at least a 50" screen to get a picture that felt as big as
what we are used to, and that still cost a lot of money, especially
if I don't want to give up the brightness of the 42" tube. The other
thing is that it just isn't the sort of TV you would just move to the
bedroom or kitchen, so I will have to find a couple people with
very strong backs to take it off my hands :-)
