Answer to own question - easy. I had bought a new battery/tool kit off
eBay for $7. The tool kit sucks and was wore down well before getting
into the ipod. I used a med. flex guitar pic to get it open.
Connected the wires by twisting them and applying tape. Snapped back
together and it works like a charm. Experts say not to even try
soldering - heat could damage the circuits..ect.

The washing machine won the battle - but not the war!
