You obviously haven't sen the HD-XA1. Also, why would they be more
reliable? The transport mechanism technology has been around since
the CD player came to pass. The ONLY thing that MIGHT get "more
reliable" is the lifespan of the laser diodes involved.
Just remember, when Laser Disc first came out, the players were over
$1000, and that was back when $1000 was a lot harder to accumulate.
My first was $1200.
The $725 I paid for this player is well worth it, considering the
astounding performance. It even plays regular DVDs better than my
Progressive Scan, "high end" Sony.
I think it will be a while before any of the makers top this unit.
Hell, the front door panel is a quarter inch thick Aluminum... not
that that makes any difference other than aesthetics. Beefy chassis
though from what I saw. Dopey firmware though. Drawer button will
not open the drawer during a load-up read until it finishes. I feel
that the "drawer open" button should override all behavior.
