That is pure bullshit!
It was a competitor and a danger from day one!
Some studios were not releasing DVD versions - only diVX crap!
It was indeed a factor in holding DVD back at the beginning.
Once diVX folded, DVD took off like wildfire and became the fastest
growing consumer product ever!
HD DVD (both versions) will not do the same.................
