If I rip a single layer DVD on my drive it rips at a maximum speed of
about 13X. (This is towards the end since it's just doing the CAV
read.) But if I rip a dual layer DVD the speed maxes out at about 6X.
I understand that it reads from the inside to the outside for the first
layer and then from the outside to the inside for the second layer
meaning the read speed is going to form sort of a bell-shaped curve.
However, why is reading slower with a dual layer disc? (I refer to
commercial discs, not ones I've burnt.)
