No offense, but who the hell cares what *you* were buying? What Richard
said is true, certain studios were releasing certain titles in DIVX only,
or at least the DIVX versions first. Whether or not it held the DVD format
back is debatable, but at least on the consumer level, people saw it as a
threat to a widely supported and accepted DVD format.

Not from the starting gate, but it didn't get too far around the track. It
still counts as a competitor though.
