These days, the pixel dimensions are only an indication of the
resolution of the original. Unless you are in the control room,
you never get to see the original quality as all the distribution
methods, satellite, cable, disc, etc. are significantly compressed.
Even "uncompressed" analog NTSC suffers from distribution
degradation. Many people are amazed when they see plain
old NTSC in studio quality in the control room (vs. their lousy
TV set at home.)
