I did some recent HDV training with V.A.S.S.T. and they are highly
respected in the field. Their guys use primarily Sony Vegas and Final
Cut. There are several options available to you but I would start with
Vegas. It has a cult following which is growing and appears to have
fewer complaints that Liquid. Avid XPress Pro HD is considerably more
expensive.
With Sony, Adobe, Avid and Liquid you can start with less expensive
consumer versions to see if you like the interface, even if it won't
handle HD. Then you can upgrade if you like it.
As mentioned by others, you won't need a capture card.
