if memory serves it was itunes then ipod then they added the itunes
store capablity to itunes.

itunes was orginally just a good way to orgnise and play your music, i
used it long before i had a ipod.

i have a fair bit of apple fair play now particully audio books which
have advantages coming from apple mainly they are book markble that next
time i play the file it rembers where i left off from and it retains
this if i turn it off and is synroniged from ipod to itunes so could
start story on computer and finish it on the ipod say with out having to
try to work out where you left off, some thing if your dealing with
70hrs or more of audio is very useful.
