Looks like this heads me in the right direction, Gary
The TV has a) DVD/DTV Input, Component; b) S-video in; c) Audio/Video
In; d) Antenna input.
The specs of the recorder show Progressive Scan under Picture/Display.
The combo specs list neither Progressive Scan nor Picture/Display.
The setup that would be most useful to me would be to play video or DVD
from the combo while recording from the TV onto the recorder.
