I'd be grateful for some suggestions for an alternate to Windows Media
Player 9.
I've got a bunch of MP3s I downloaded back in the heyday of Napster.
Back then I used a player called WinAmp on a computer running Windows
95. But in the years since then my health failed, I was unable to
continue working and ended up homeless for over a year, so my computer,
along with everything else, ended up either in storage or the thrift
store.
Now I've got a place to live again and a friend gave me his old
computer when he got a new one. I'm running Windows 2000 on it.
I just downloaded and installed Windows Media Player 9 (apparently
that's the highest version that works on Win 2K) and have been
monkeying around with it. I like how easy it is to copy songs from my
CD collection the computer.
But when I imported my MP3s from my old computer, WMP got the artist
info all messed up. It labeled over 200 different songs with the same
artist's name (none of the songs were by that artist!).
And when I tried to make up a "playlist" in WMP, there didn't seem to
be any way to look for the songs by their titles, only by artist,
album or genre. Since the artist info is so messed up, that isn't
going to work very well for me. And for me, I think of songs by their
titles, not by the artist's name or the name of the album the song came
from. Sometimes I can remember the name of the artist, just the name
of the song.
So, I'm wondering if there's a free player out there these days, that
will work under Win 2K, and which would let me organize my songs by
song title, rather than artist or album title.
